1. Who we are
Bilingüitos (“Bilingüitos”, “we”, “us”) operates the Bilingüitos website and app (the “Service”). We are the operator responsible for information collected through the Service.
- Operator: Bilingüitos
- Email: hola@bilinguitos.com
2. Information we collect
From adult learners and parents
- Account information: name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider).
- Learning profile: your answers to our three setup questions (who is learning, why, and daily pace), your chosen guide, and your settings.
- Learning activity: lessons completed, answers’ results (right or wrong), points, streaks, badges and live classes you sign up for.
- Device and usage information: IP address and basic technical logs used for security and to keep the Service working. If you turn on notifications, a push subscription token for your device.
From children (through a parent’s account)
See section 3. We collect the minimum: a nickname chosen by the parent and the child’s learning activity. We do not ask children for their name, email, phone number, address, photo or location.
Microphone and speech
Some exercises ask the learner to say a word out loud. If the microphone is turned on, speech recognition is performed by your browser or device (for example Google Chrome or Apple Safari), which may send the audio to its provider to turn it into text. Bilingüitos receives only the resulting text to grade the answer, and we do not record or store learners’ voices. For children’s profiles the microphone is off by default and only a parent can turn it on. Every speaking exercise can be skipped.
What we do not collect
We do not use advertising cookies, third-party trackers or analytics that build profiles, and we do not collect precise location. We use only the essential cookies needed to keep you signed in.
3. Children’s privacy and notice to parents (COPPA)
We comply with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Children under 13 cannot create their own account. A parent or legal guardian creates a family account and then adds a profile for each child.
What we collect from or about your child
- A nickname you choose (it does not need to be your child’s real name).
- The learning settings you choose (daily pace, guide, reminders, microphone on or off).
- Learning activity: lessons played, right and wrong answers, points, streaks, badges and classes you sign them up for.
- If you allow the microphone: the text transcription of the word your child said, used only to grade that exercise and not stored.
How we use it
Only to provide the Service to your child: show lessons, save progress, award badges, and send you reminders and weekly summaries. We do not show ads, we do not sell or share children’s information, children cannot chat or post publicly, and we do not use children’s information for any purpose unrelated to teaching.
Your consent
Before we collect any information about a child, the parent signs in to their own account and gives consent when creating the child’s profile. We keep a record of that consent (date, policy version and account).
Your rights as a parent
- Review the information we have about your child: it is shown in your family dashboard.
- Change your child’s settings at any time.
- Delete your child’s profile and all of their learning activity from the family dashboard, or ask us to by email. This also stops any further collection.
- Consent to the collection and use of your child’s information without consenting to its disclosure to third parties (we do not disclose it, other than to the service providers listed below that run the Service).
Live classes
Live classes take place on third-party video platforms (such as Zoom or Google Meet) with a Bilingüitos teacher. Joining is optional. We recommend that a parent supervises a child’s participation. Those platforms have their own privacy policies.
If you believe a child under 13 created an account without a parent, contact us and we will delete it.
4. How we use information
- To create and secure your account and provide lessons, progress, streaks and badges.
- To send the notifications you turn on (practice reminders, new lessons, live class reminders, weekly summaries).
- To let our teaching team see learners’ progress so they can improve lessons and support learners.
- To keep the Service safe, prevent abuse and comply with the law.
We do not use personal information for targeted advertising, and we do not sell it.
5. How we share information
We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, under contracts that limit their use of it:
- Supabase — database, authentication and file storage.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Push notification services of your browser or device (Apple, Google, Mozilla) — only if you turn on notifications.
- Your browser’s speech recognition — only if the microphone is turned on (see section 2).
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of users, or as part of a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy will continue to apply). We do not sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
6. Your choices and rights
- Update your profile and settings in the app at any time.
- Turn notifications on or off on each device, and turn daily reminders off in your profile.
- Delete your account from your profile (“Delete my account”). This removes your profile and learning activity; we keep only minimal records we are required to keep for security or legal reasons.
- Contact us to access, correct or delete your information.
7. California and other U.S. state privacy rights
If you live in California (CCPA/CPRA) or another state with a consumer privacy law (such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah or Texas), you may have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to access it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We do not sell or share personal information and we do not use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of; we also honor Global Privacy Control signals. Categories we collect: identifiers (name, email), account and learning activity, and internet activity limited to security logs. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
To make a request, email us from the address on your account. We will verify your request and answer within the time the law requires. You can use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof of authorization.
8. How long we keep information
We keep information while your account is active. When you delete an account or a child’s profile, we delete the related personal information within 30 days, except minimal records we must keep for legal or security reasons. Children’s profiles that stay inactive for 24 months are deleted.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit, a private file storage bucket, access controls by role, passwords stored only as hashes, and a parent PIN that keeps children out of the parent area. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the version and date above and, when required, ask parents for new consent before collecting new kinds of information from children.
